Excellent Communication – A good truck driver should have excellent communication and people skills. Communication problems can lead to confusion between a driver and a dispatcher. To avoid such issues, you must work on your communication skills as at some point you might need to be in contact with other people and needs to be able to get along well with others and successfully communicate. 



Excellent Navigation Skills – With the help of Google maps and Apple maps, truck drivers can navigate locations effortlessly. But being a driver, you need to be aware of the roads that can and can’t be traveled. Maps or GPS show directions as per the shortest route or shortest time. However, if you choose to select that direction, you need to be sure that the road is perfectly fine. All you need to know is that sometimes GPS recalculates incorrectly. Knowing about compass direction and maps is the key. 

Responsibility – Another skill that comes into consideration to be a successful driver is responsible. They should be aware of the steps they might need to take in an attempt to prevent any mishap or accident over the road. Safety should be the topmost priority of every driver#1.

Skills required to apply for environmental truck driver job 

If you want to apply for truck driver in an environmental field, here are some of the necessary skills that every driver must have: 

  • Knowledge of controlling operations of equipment or systems. 
  • Complete understanding of dials, gauges, or other indicators to ensure that the tractor-trailer or bobtail truck is working smoothly. 
  • Proficient in conducting tests and inspections of equipment and processes to evaluate quality or performance. 
  • Knowledge about maintaining tools. 
  • Have customer friendly skills. 

Other Requirements to be a driver: 

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving hazardous and non-hazardous materials. 
  • Class A CDL, Hazmat Endorsement and certification, Tanker Endorsement, 40hr OSHA Certified 
  • Knowledge of laws – DOT regulations, EPA regulations, and OSHA regulations, and Twic card, etc. 
  • Must have complete knowledge of relevant equipment, procedures, policies, and strategies to promote effective local, state, and national laws. 
  • Knowledge of identifying potential safety risks ahead of time.
